Images of Africa, Images of America

We have three photo albums which we welcome you to participate in creating. Once you have some photos ready to upload, sign in to the Africans in Chicago website to upload them to the appropriate album:

This photo album plays with the idea ‘Images of Africa, Images of America’. When you see images of Africa, what are they? What do they make you think of? What about when you see images of America? What are the stereotypical images associated with each country?

Send us your photos on the theme ‘Images of Africa, Images of America’ by taking pictures from your community in Chicago or in an African country (this might be your home country, or another country that you have visited). You do not have to be born in Africa to participate!

This album is for pictures from your life in Chicago. You can load up pictures of some places you have visited in Chicago or things in Chicago that remind you of home. You do not have to be born in Africa to participate!

Behind the scenes photos from Africans in Chicago oral history interviews.

This album contains images from immigrants and refugees’ journeys to Chicago. Your photos for this album can include images from your journey from your home country to Chicago – for example photos or drawings of documents you had to carry with you to the U.S. such as passport photos, different currencies or a letter you received in the U.S. from a family member at home. You do not have to be born in Africa to participate!
