About African Voices

African Voices is the official podcast of the United African Organization. The United African Organization is a coalition of African national associations that promotes social and economic justice, civic participation, and empowerment of African immigrants and refugees in Illinois.

The Internet has democratized radio and TV by providing space for people with few resources and limited professional media experience to get their voices heard. The United African Organization would like to be part of this process. Through our podcast, we are offering the African community in Illinois the opportunity to have their voices heard.

The purpose of our podcast is three-fold:

●      Offer a platform for members of the community to publicize their work, events and issues. We want to create solidarity among all migrants to the United States by providing a space for people to share experiences and knowledge.

●      Provide an information channel for advice on critical issues – from leadership workshops to citizenship seminars and instruction on how to obtain health-care benefits. In addition to contacting us by phone, coming into our office or visiting our website, you can now get some information about these issues by listening to our podcast.

●      Connect our listeners to the personalities in our communities through storytelling and music. We hope our interviewees’ stories will educate, enlighten and entertain you.

This is where you come in. We need your help to publicize news and events in the African community in Illinois. We hope you will be able to send us your news and events as they arise. We would also value your efforts to connect us to activists in the immigrant and refugee community to interview for the podcast, common issues facing the community that you or your members would like to share, and African musicians whose work you would like us to feature.
