1. Community News, Events and Issues:
Guidelines (News): Please provide your name, organization/affiliation (if applicable), email address and phone number when you send in your news item.
Guidelines (Events): Please include the event name, date, time, venue, cost and description (max 100 words). Also let us know if there are restrictions on who is eligible to attend.
Guidelines (Issues): If there is a common issue facing members of the community, feel free to share it with us at African Voices. We would like to hear from you.
2. Advice Box
Is there a particular service you would like more information? For example, advice on how to become an American citizen, how to find English classes or whether you are eligible for social benefits such as food stamps or health insurance, as an immigrant or refugee. If so, please let us know! Email or phone us.
3. Africans in Chicago
As part of our Africans in Chicago Oral History Project, we have begun capturing the stories of African immigrants and refugees in Chicago. If you have a story to tell about your journey from your home country to Chicago, or about your experiences of being an immigrant/refugee in the United States, email or phone us. If you know of anyone in your community who might have an interesting story to tell, or who does activist work, let us know, and we can interview them for the program. We keep the contact details of those we interview absolutely confidential. As an organization that advocates for the rights of immigrants, we are extremely sensitive to your reluctance to put your information out in the open. We will only view people’s stories with their permission.
